Google has recently announced two new features that will soon be added to its Gmail Contacts feature. Gmail Contacts is the online address book portion of the web-based Gmail product, and it will soon be getting support for SyncML. SyncML is a method for synchronizing contact and calendar information between a cell phone and computer. Recent updates to the specification allow for push email support, as well. This will finally enable Gmail Contacts to be synchronized with various other devices.
The Gmail Contacts feature will also be receiving an upgrade to the way it automatically adds email addresses to your contacts list. Currently, any email address that you send an email to is added as an entry in your contacts list, potentially resulting in quite a few unwanted entries. Soon, any email address that you send an email to will be added to a 'Suggested Contacts' list. To maintain convenience, any email address that you send an email to more than 5 times will still be added to your contacts list, though that could potentially be adjusted later.
